Pay Monthly Website Packages Compared: The Real UK Prices in 2026
Comparing pay monthly website packages is harder than it should be, because almost every provider publishes a feature list and almost none of them publish the three things that actually decide whether you have got a good deal.
This page covers both. First what the UK market genuinely charges in 2026, with sources. Then the three terms buried in the small print that matter more than any feature list.
What UK pay monthly websites actually cost in 2026
There are three distinct price bands, and providers in different bands are not really selling the same thing.
£19 to £50 a month. Small business, template-led or lightly bespoke. This is where most trades, salons, cafes and one-person consultancies sit. Inventis starts at £29 a month on a 12 month agreement. Zixel starts at £45 a month for up to five pages with no setup fee and a rolling 30 day plan. Our own Starter plan is £32 a month. Others advertise from £19 or £25.
£50 to £150 a month. More pages, more hand-holding. Zixel’s Premium is £85 for up to ten pages and Pro is £145 for up to twenty. Our Professional plan is £48 and Growth is £64. This band usually adds copywriting help, more rounds of design, and faster support.
£150 to £400 plus a month. Agency retainers. At this level you are typically buying a marketing service with a website attached: monthly analytics reporting, performance work, allocated support hours, sometimes SEO management. Industry guides put the typical all-in small business subscription at £100 to £200 a month, and full agency retainers at £400 to £1,000 and up.
So if you are a small business being quoted £250 a month for what is essentially a five page website, you are paying agency prices for a small business product. That is worth knowing before you sign, not after.
The three terms that matter more than the feature list
Every provider will tell you hosting, SSL, a domain and updates are included. Those are table stakes in 2026. Here is what actually varies.
1. Who owns the website if you stop paying
This is the single biggest difference between two packages that look identical on price, and it is the one most often left unstated.
There are three models in the UK market. Some providers transfer ownership after a minimum term: Inventis, for example, states the website is 100% yours once the 12 month plan is complete. Some give you the site from day one. And some never address it at all on their pricing page, which in practice usually means the site stays with them and you leave with nothing but your domain.
None of those are automatically wrong. A provider who keeps the site can charge less because they can reuse the build. But you need to know which model you are buying, because it changes what you own after two years of payments.
2. Whether there is a minimum term, and what leaving costs
Rolling monthly and 12 month contracts are both common and both defensible. A 12 month term lets a provider spread a real design cost over the year, which is why the headline price can be lower. A rolling plan costs slightly more but you are never trapped.
The question to ask is not just the length. It is what happens in month three if it is not working out. Is there an exit fee? Do you keep the design? Does the domain come with you? Get the answer in writing before you sign, whatever the term.
3. What unlimited updates actually means
Almost everyone in this market advertises unlimited updates. In practice it means one of three things:
- Unlimited content changes. Text, photos, prices, opening hours, new pages of the same type. This is the common and reasonable definition.
- Unlimited requests, queued. You can ask for anything, but changes land in a queue and a busy week means a five day wait.
- Unlimited within a monthly time allowance. Often one or two hours, with anything beyond that quoted separately.
All three are legitimate. Confusing them is how people end up frustrated. Ask what a normal change takes in working days, and ask what falls outside the definition.
What is in our three plans
For comparison, here is ours in full, so you can hold it against anything else you are considering.
Starter, £32 a month. A custom designed site of up to five pages, hosting, SSL, your domain, a contact form, mobile-first build, basic on-page SEO, and content changes included. Suits a trade, a salon, a cafe, a single-location service business.
Professional, £48 a month. Everything in Starter plus more pages, service or location pages, photo galleries, review integration, Google Business Profile setup, and deeper on-page SEO. Suits a business with several services or a wider catchment.
Growth, £64 a month. Everything in Professional plus booking or quote flows, a blog, analytics reporting, and ongoing content work. Suits a business actively trying to grow search traffic rather than just be findable.
On all three: no setup fee, and you own your domain, your content and your site. If you leave, you take it with you. That is the whole reason the business exists, so we put it in writing rather than in the small print.
How to actually choose
Work in this order and the decision gets much simpler.
- Count your real pages. Most small businesses need four to six, not twelve. Paying for a twenty page tier you will never fill is the most common overspend in this market.
- Decide if you need to be found or just to be checked. If people already find you by word of mouth and only visit your site to confirm you are real, a Starter tier is enough. If you need Google to send you work, you need the SEO and content side, and that is a different tier.
- Get the ownership answer in writing. Before price, before design.
- Then compare price. Not before. A £19 plan you do not own and a £45 plan you do are not the same purchase.
Before you sign anything
We wrote a short checklist of the questions worth asking any pay monthly provider, including us, covering ownership, exit, domain control, what happens to your content, and who holds the logins. It takes two minutes to read and it applies whoever you end up choosing.
